How to Set Up a Google Ads Tracking Template with MRN Click Tracker
Add the MRN Click Tracker template, with redirection_url={lpurl}, to your Google Ads account, campaign or ad group, then select Test. MRN Click Tracker is a Google-certified click tracker, and users always go to your final URL.
How do I set it up?
Get your campaign ID
Ask MRN Digital to create a campaign for your landing page domain. You receive a campaign ID such as
CMP-1A2B3C.Set your final URL
Enter your real landing page as the ad's final URL. It must be on the campaign's registered domain or a subdomain.
https://example.com/offerOpen the tracking template field
In Google Ads, go to the campaign's Settings → Campaign URL options → Tracking template. You can also set it at account, ad group or ad level.
Paste the tracking template
Replace
CMP-1A2B3Cwith your campaign ID. Google Ads fills in{lpurl}with your final URL.https://mrntracker.com/go?camp_id=CMP-1A2B3C&force_transparent=true&redirection_url={lpurl}Test and save
Select Test. The result must reach your final URL. Then save. Google re-reviews ads after template changes.
Don't open the template in a browser. Only Google Ads can fill in {lpurl}, so opening it directly shows an error. To check a link by hand, replace {lpurl} with your URL-encoded landing page.
Destination rules
- The URL in
redirection_urlmust usehttporhttps. - It must be on the campaign's registered domain or one of its subdomains. For example, a campaign registered for
example.comcan redirect toexample.comorshop.example.com. - If the URL is missing, invalid or on another domain, the tracker shows an error and does not redirect. It never falls back to a different destination.
- To use a new landing page domain, ask MRN Digital to create a campaign for that domain.
Rules for advertisers
- UTM and other parameters must be inside the final URL, not added separately.
- Don't place another tracking link inside
redirection_url; use{lpurl}. - Do not edit
force_transparentorredirection_url, and keepforce_transparent=truebeforeredirection_url.

Fixing common errors
Click tracker - Unsupported ("uncertified")
Your template uses a tracker Google hasn't certified. Use mrntracker.com as shown above, and check no other tracker is nested inside the URL. Read how to fix an uncertified click tracker.
Click tracker - Destination mismatch
The tracker's destination doesn't match the final URL. Use redirection_url={lpurl} rather than a fixed address, and don't place another tracker in the URL unless it is also certified.
Click tracker - Incorrect path
The URL uses a path that isn't certified as transparent. Use the /go path exactly as shown, on mrntracker.com.
"URL is modified, please contact admin"
The landing page isn't on the campaign's registered domain. Ask us to register the domain, or correct the final URL.
"Campaign ID does not match this URL"
The camp_id is missing or wrong. Copy it again from MRN Digital.
"URL is not appropriate"
The redirection_url is missing or isn't a valid web address. This also appears if you open a template with {lpurl} in a browser.
Hosts and supported paths
- Host:
mrntracker.com - Path:
/go(withcamp_id,force_transparent=trueandredirection_url)
Every campaign link follows redirection_url.
Google Ads Setup FAQs
Common questions about adding the MRN Click Tracker template.
Where do I add the tracking template in Google Ads?
Open the campaign's Settings, then Campaign URL options, then Tracking template. You can also set it at account, ad group or ad level, and the most specific level applies.
Do I need {lpurl} in the template?
Yes, at account, campaign and ad group level. Google says these templates must include a parameter that inserts your final URL, or your landing page URL will break.
Why does the template show an error in my browser?
Only Google Ads can fill in {lpurl}. Opened directly, the tracker receives the literal text {lpurl}, which isn't a web address, so it returns an error and doesn't redirect.
Can my final URL be on a subdomain?
Yes. A campaign registered for example.com also redirects to subdomains such as www.example.com and shop.example.com. Any other domain needs its own campaign.
What should the Test in Google Ads show?
It should reach your final URL. If it doesn't, check that the final URL is on the campaign's registered domain and that the template is pasted exactly as shown.
